It was a result Burlington's men's side had hoped to avoid. The Bayhawks fell 4–0 to Oakville in a Burloak derby that turned ugly in the second half, with Oakville scoring three times in a five-minute stretch that essentially ended the contest. Oakville's former St. John's University captain Brandon Duarte opened the scoring in the 33rd minute. Burlington had entered the match hoping Oakville's roster woes — suspensions had thinned their squad — would work in their favour. Instead, the home side responded with a sharp, decisive performance. After the break, Blake Davis beat keeper Ethan Cagalj in the 57th minute to double the lead. Leart Nura added a third just two minutes later, and Duarte capped the rout with the fourth goal shortly after — bookending his team's dominant display. Head Coach Joao Oliveira didn't pull punches after the final whistle. "There is a badge to defend, there is a club that we need to represent properly, and today we were very far from that," he said, acknowledging that some players may already have their heads turned toward the upcoming OUA season. Burlington now head to Barrie on Saturday, August 22 for their final match of the season against soon-to-be-relegated Simcoe County Rovers. The Bayhawks sit three points back of North Toronto in the standings, but with results still to come across the league — Oakville face both the Rovers mid-week and North Toronto on the weekend — there's a scenario where Burlington finish ahead of North Toronto when all is said and done.
